| DISCLAIMERS I don't own the characters, I'm just inspired to borrow them, they are the property of Alliance-Atlantis, CBS and the producers, please don't sue. Cannonball is a song by Damien Rice; I'm borrowing the lyrics from him; he owns it and the copyright. Hopefully some of you will find the song and listen to it, it is truly beautiful. A big THANK YOU to Angie for beta-ing this for me and giving me the confidence to post it. | ||
Gil sat in his office reflecting on the past few days. Who could believe things could change so quickly? He didn't normally go for fairy tales and second chances, but he surely had been handed one. Who would believe just a couple of hours ago he would have held his best friend and taken a chance? As they moved closer he took a chance and leant in for that longed for kiss. There's still a little bit of your taste in my mouth The problem with fairy tales was they all had happy endings; the prince got the princess. What he feared most was this wouldn't happen to him. Years of denying his true feelings had taught him it was easier to hide and watch from a distance. Commitment meant chances of getting hurt, or even worse hurting the one person he cared about, as if she hadn't had enough of that already. So he'd hidden himself away behind a web of lies only tempted out by her obvious light and love of life and what was real. Stones taught me to fly So what of the future? Was there a future for them? Those doubts creeping in once again. She'd made it obvious what she wanted, no, needed from him. Why couldn't he be as honest. When did things become so complicated? When did they change from being just best friends? Why was there this awkwardness? But despite this he yearned for more. There's still a little bit of your song in my ear He was decided; he knew he'd have to do something. Not acting would lose the one thing he loved, he needed to take a chance, leave his secure world and try. This was not going to be like the roller coasters he loved to ride, at least with those you had the safety strap a security that despite the speed, the stomach churning turns and G forces you'd be safe. His safety net years of friendship and trust, he knew her better than he knew himself at times, certainly better than he knew himself at this moment in time. Stones taught me to fly With a final glance at his desk, he headed off in search of her. By now she should be back heading for the locker room ready to go and pick up her daughter. He rounded the corner and literally fell into her arms as they collided. "Hey, where's the fire?" she laughingly asked. "Oh Cath... uhmm.... I was wondering... if you're not busy or anything...Do you want to grab some breakfast?" "Love to," she replied treating him to a dazzling grin, "I'll be ready in 5 minutes." Smiling he headed off in the direction of the parking lot, what was that he thought about fairy tales? Maybe they did have some truth. END | ||
