Chapter 1

Gil Grissom stretched back in his chair, his eyes felt heavy and his limbs ached. The Logan case had involved one of his team. Catherine Willows was taken and used to help a murderer cover his tracks. Thankfully an eagle eyed police officer had spotted the Lexus that Logan was driving to get away. Logan was arrested and it was a slam dunk of a case. Grissom did not go home straight after the case, his head was so full of the recent events, he knew he would never sleep, even though he had worked a double solving the case. So he sat in his office trying to catch up on paperwork.

Catherine Willows sat in the dark of one research offices, her sister had collected Lyndsey from the lab, Cath was grateful for sometime to get her head around the events. Her head was spinning and she needed sometime to calm herself down, she felt safe back in the lab, back near her friends and back near the one person who always offered her support. Logan had used her and he had almost got away with it. She had helped a murderer, she had been fooled and that hurt like hell. During the whole journey with Logan, Cath did not feel afraid, she felt sympathetic for Logan he had seemed generally distraught about what could have happened to her.

Cath realised she could not hide at the lab forever, that she would have to go home, she needed some sleep. She stood and made her way out of the lab, it was then that she passed Gil's office. Grissom was sat in his chair ,his head in paperwork, Cath noticed how tired he looked, his face pale and his shoulders slumped. She stopped and walked into his office. "Not going home," she said.

Grissom looked up and smiled "I have all this fun here". He held up the paperwork.

Cath gave him a smile "Yeah, erm you look like your having fun, want some company?" Secretly she really did not want to go home to an empty house, but she could not leave him in his office, when he obviously needed to relax.

He sighed "I don't think I will be very good company at the moment, and I really should get this finished".

Cath walked closer towards his desk and perched on the edge, "well I know for a fact that those reports can wait till tomorrow" , "so why don't we go get some sleep", Gil looked up at her and raised an eyebrow, "erm I mean, we could go get something to eat at my place".

Gil wanted to go with Cath but he felt tired and he felt vulnerable being near her, as all he wanted to do was hold her and tell her how relieved he was to see her safe. "Cath, I think it is I should just go home and sleep, why don't you ask one of the others?" Cath felt the disappointment hit her, her stomach went tight, she couldn't understand why, he didn't realise that she needed him.

"Well the others have gone home" and she took a deep breath as her voice began to falter and quietly under her breath "I asked you because I need you".

Grissom couldn't pick up what she had said, it was too soft for his ears, he heard that the others had left and then missed the rest of her sentence.

Cath was not sure if he heard, she was not sure if she wanted him to have heard her. She tried her best to smile but the lump in her throat was growing "ok then I'll see ya"

Gil noticed how her voice changed and he swore he saw tears rise in her eyes. "Cath, are you ok?"

"Yeah I will be", she said turning away, as tears began to run down her face.

Grissom didn't fail to notice her tears as she walked out of his office, and he felt guilt, he had been selfish, she had been through an ordeal and she had turned to him for comfort and support and he pushed her away. He quickly grabbed his coat and ran after her "Cath" he shouted as he saw the exit doors swing shut. He ran outside and shouted her again "Cath, wait", she looked up and continued to get into her car "Cath, please" he shouted, he was breathing heavy.

Cath stopped and stood in the car park, she tried to wipe her tears away but they continue falling. "Gil, I have had a really shit time and I'm going home".

Gil looked at her, his insides ached, she was upset and he had added to her pain. "Cath, im sorry" "I was being selfish, please let me drive you home". Cath dried her eyes and looked at him. "You sure, I mean I don't want to keep you from the fun in your office" she said sarcastically.

"Im sure, come on" Gil reached out his hand and she took it. Cath felt a rush of warmth from his hand and already she felt a hundred times better. She and Gil often brushed passed each other, touched each other but this was different, this was more intimate, this Cath realised is what she wanted from him.

They walked hand in hand towards his vehicle and she leaned into his body, he let go of her hand and put his arm around her. When they got to his vehicle, he reluctantly let her go, and unlocked the car and they both climbed in.

"Thank you " she said quietly and they drove off towards her house.
