| Chapter 1 | ||
The vallet parking attendant takes my place in my navy Tahoe as the uniformed bellhops load my luggage onto the shiny golden rack. The similarly dressed doorman opens the glass door, allowing me to enter the richly decorated lobby of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino. My feet glide across the polished marble floors as I make my way over to the front desk. "Gil Grissom." I tell the nicely dressed woman. "You're with the Las Vegas Police Department party?" she inquires "Yes." I confirm while she activates my room key and types on her computer. "Okay, sir. Your room number is 1037. The bellhop will escort you upstairs. I'm told to remind you that the party begins at 8:00 sharp. Black tie required. All I need for you to do is sign right here for me, this is just saying that you have checked in." I take the pen she hands me and sign the crisp white piece of paper. "Everything is covered, the only thing you will be charged for is if you decide to use the mini-bar in your room." She continues. "Thank you." I smile "You're welcome." Upstairs in my room, I look at the clock, realizing that I have about 5 hours to spare before the party starts. I'm not going to go to the pool, or the fitness room. The logical thing to do would be sleep, but I'm not in the mood. Nor am I tired. So I lay across the large bed and think. The first thought that came to mind was the weekend I had intended to spend here, with a woman. If anyone knew about that they probably wouldn't have believed me. Nonetheless, it was true. It was with a woman that I had been dating for about 6 months. I was head over heels in love with her, from the moment I had first saw her at a bookstore. This was the woman who kept me falling in love again, from beginning any sort of relationship with any other woman. She was one, of that I was sure. But I wonder if I'll ever get to have her forever. Maybe if I didn't go to San Francisco, I wouldn't have ever had to find out how to live without her. Maybe if we hadn't lost touch. ******Catherine Willows walked into the famous Bellagio Hotel for the first time in a long time. This was her favorite hotel on the strip. She loved the atmosphere, how your every need and wish was taken care of by the friendly staff. She loved the décor and the smells. She loved the spa, the pool, and the restaurants. But most of all she loved the Fountains. She had only ever seen pictures of them, despite her countless visits to the AAA five-diamond hotel. She had this fantasy ever since she first set foot in Las Vegas when she was 19 years old. She wanted to have a moonlight walk by the Fountains with the man of her dreams. Well, Eddie never took her there, so he wasn't the man of her dreams. She knew that now, but was naïve to that fact when she married him. She married Eddie because it was the proper thing to do. She grew up without a father, her child would not. And while she was pregnant, Eddie really was a gentleman, but that façade wore off quickly, and alas, she was still waiting for her dream. The dream almost came true long ago. In fact, if her boyfriend at the time had not been called to work, she would have had her dream. And then, she may not have married Eddie. But she did, because her boyfriend left her, just like everyone else in her life. But he was different, he had made her a promise to come back. As it turns out, he did come back, but by the time he did, she was wearing a diamond on her finger. The woman at the reception desk gave her the same little speech about the party. She smiled and followed the bellhop to her room. Her heels clicking on the marble floors. 1038. Her room. Once there, she tried not to think about that almost perfect weekend so long ago. She hung up her evening gown. It was a black beaded number. She rarely wore black to a party. That was Sara's cup of tea. But this would surprise everyone. Besides, it really was a gorgeous dress, and she wanted to wear it. And being it was a halter that came to a choker around her neck, it covered most of her scars from her situation earlier in the month. She really didn't want to talk about it. From her window she could see the fountains. Her mind once again played out that perfect scene before her eyes. "Someday" she thought. "Someday." | ||
