| Chapter 1 | ||
"Lindsey-girl!" Lindsey turned her head, her strawberry blonde hair falling to frame her defined face. Her blue-green eyes lit up, as she grinned, and ran over to the girl who was calling her name. She was the same height as Lindsey, 5"4. She had brown hair, with a reddish tint and side-swept bangs that fell into her green eyes. Her smile was contagious and bright as she ran over to Lindsey. The two girls jumped at each other, hugging and laughing. "Cody, how are you?" Lindsey asked, catching her breath. "I'm so excited! Is Mattie here yet?" Cody asked, her eyes wandering the parking lot. Lindsey glanced around. "I have no clue. Maybe he's inside?" Cody met Lindsey's glance, and linked her arm through hers. "Let's go!" The two girls walked through the lab doors, laughing and giggling at each other. Lindsey led them both up to the front desk, and smiled. "Hey Judy. Do you know where we're supposed to go to get assigned?" Judy smiled back at Lindsey. "The break room. Mr. Grissom should be right with you two." "Do you know if a boy is here yet? He's a little taller than Linds, and he has brown shaggy hair hazel eyes?" Cody asked. Judy thought for a second, and then nodded her head. "Yes, he's waiting in the break room." "Thanks Judy!" Lindsey called, as Cody dragged her down the hall. "Okay, so where's the room?" "Right here!" "Mattie!" Cody squealed, pulling him into a hug. "Whoa, Cody, what are you on, girl?" Matt smiled, pulling away from her. "You're just jealous because I won't give you any!" Cody grinned back. "Yea, you keep tellin' yourself that. Hey Linds." Mat turned to Lindsey. Lindsey smiled back, and pulled him into a hug. "Hey Mattie. How are you?" "Not to bad. So, what's supposed to happen?" he asked, sitting down on the couch. "Well," Lindsey started, sitting down beside him, "we're supposed to wait until Grissom gets here, then we'll get assigned to a CSI we're supposed to help. But no fieldwork, and no autopsy. Just helping them around the lab." "Wow, sounds like so much fun. Remind me again why I'm here?" Matt asked, looking over Lindsey. Lindsey smiled. "Because you love me, and I'm just so darn cute!" "Right…" Matt replied, rolling his eyes. "Hey!" Lindsey threw a punch at him, and it landed right on his arm. "Jokes!" Matt cried, rubbing his arm. "Wow, you can hit." "Ewww! What the hell is that smell?" Cody cried, slamming the fridge door shut, and made her way as far away from it as possible. "That was probably one of Grissom's experiments. Your mother was supposed to talk to him about that." Warrick entered the room, and walked over to the fridge. "Hey Warrick!" Lindsey greeted him. "This is Mattie, and Cody." "Hey." Warrick said, shutting the door to the fridge. "Damn, that stuff reeks." "Told you." Cody replied, plopping herself down beside Lindsey. "So, where's this Grissom dude at?" " `Grissom dude'?" Grissom repeated, stepping into the room. He threw Cody a look of disbelief. "I take it you're Miss Hopkins?" Cody grinned. "Yup!" Grissom inwardly groaned, as he turned to Matt. "Mr. Green?" "Yes sir." Matt replied. "And Lindsey." Grissom smiled warmly at her, and Lindsey returned the smile. One-by-one the graveyard shift filled the room, the last of which was Catherine. Catherine came and stood beside Nick, after giving Lindsey a reassuring smile. Lindsey rolled her eyes at her mother, and then smiled back. "Alright." Everyone quieted down, and turned their attention towards Grissom. He cleared his throat, before beginning. "Now, I have assigned each of the interns to one of the CSIs. As you all know, the interns are not to be out on the field, which is a safety precaution. They are not to go to autopsy, as they deemed to young to see dead bodies by the director. They are to stay in the lab, and take their supervisor's notes, and help them process evidence." He paused. "We'll start with Lindsey." He turned to Lindsey, Cody and Mattie. "Lindsey, you'll be with Warrick. Cody, you'll be with Sara, and Matt, you'll be with Nick. Halfway through shift, you will be switching to a different CSI. Then, Lindsey you'll be with Sara, Cody with Catherine, and Matt with Warrick. Everyone clear?" Everyone nodded his or her heads. "Okay, now everyone get to it. You already have your case files. While your supervisors go and do their job, the interns will go and see what Greg wants them to do. Okay?" Everyone stood up, and headed out the door. Grissom shuffled around some papers on the table, as Lindsey walked up to him. "Grissom?" He turned to her, and smiled. "Yes Lindsey?" "Why can't I go with mom?" she asked. He sighed. "You have a final evaluation at the end of the shift, where your two supervisors for the night will grade you. Ecklie got it into the director's head that Catherine would play favourites with you, and make the others go along with it." Lindsey frowned. "What a butthead." Gil let out a chuckle. "Well, I guess you could put it that way." "Lindsey! TODAY!" Cody called from outside the break room door. Lindsey looked up at Cody and Mattie waiting for her. "I'm coming, calm down!" She turned to Grissom, and smiled. "See yea." She said, before following her friends out the door and down the hall to Greg's lab. "Cool tunes!" Cody said, flipping through Greg's CD's. Lindsey walked over beside her, and looked over her shoulder. "I like… them!" Lindsey pointed to the CD as Cody passed it. "They're the first band I heard when I walked into the lab for the first time." Cody smiled. "Whatever Lindsey-girl." Greg glanced up from looking at his dirt biking magazine with Matt. "What's with the nickname?" he asked. Cody glanced over at Greg. "What's with the hair?" she asked, mocking his voice. Greg frowned, and touched his hair self-consciously. "What's wrong with my hair?" Sara poked in her head through the lab doors. "Cody, I'm ready for you." Cody stood up from the stool she was sitting on. "O, well, let me just drop everything, so I can come and deal with your problems." She muttered underneath her breath, purposely trying to make Lindsey laugh. Lindsey giggled, as she watched her friend leave. Just as Sara and Cody exited the room, Nick and Warrick stuck their heads in. "Let's go you two!" "Coming!" Lindsey laughed, following them out the door. "See yea Greggo!" "See you Linds!" he called back. "See you at the break, okay Linds?" Mattie asked before they went their separate ways. Lindsey turned, and smiled at him. "Of course. See you!" | ||
