"Are you ready to tell me what's wrong?" "What?" "Catherine, you've been giving me the cold shoulder all night. If I've done something to upset you, I think you should just tell me." "You don't remember, do you?" "Remember what?" "What day is it today?" "Friday." "No, I mean what day is it today?" "...Friday?" "Grissom!" "I don't think I understand..." "It's October 24." "Is it?" He peeked at his desk calendar. "Yes it is. Now do you know why I'm upset?" "No...I can't say I do." "Dammit! Why do I even bother?" "Catherine, you know I'm not good at this guessing game. What's wrong?" "October 24. It's an important date." "Is it your birthday?" "No." "Is it Lindsey's birthday?" "No." "Is it the anniversary of when we first met?" "No." "Is it the anniversary of when you solved your first case?" "No." "Am I supposed to know the answer to this riddle?" "Yes! Grissom, how can you forget? I can't believe you forgot!" "Are you sure this is important? I think if it was important, I would remember." "Are you undermining the importance of today?" "Catherine, I can't undermine the importance of something I don't even remember." "You know what? Fine. Obviously this means nothing to you so I'm gonna leave now before I make anymore of a fool of myself. Goodnight, Gil." "Goodnight, Catherine." *****Catherine resisted the urge to punch her locker door as she entered the empty locker room. How could Grissom forget? Didn't it mean anything to him what had happened a year ago? She was so absorbed in her frustration, it took a moment for her to realize her locker was not the same as she had left it before shift. She looked up to check the locker number to make sure she was at her own locker and shook her head once before finally examining what had been left in her locker. "365 nights of not sleeping alone. 365 mornings of not waking up alone. Thank you." She read the note out loud and at the end, lifted her head to find Grissom standing in the doorway with a smirk on his face. "Your birthday: March 26. Lindsey's birthday: November 2. The day we met: July 19. The day you solved your first case: September 22. And October 24, 2002 was the day you changed my life." He walked deeper into the room towards her. "One year ago today, you promised me I would never have to be alone again." "I can't believe you remembered." "I thought you couldn't believe I forgot?" "Well that was when I actually thought you had forgotten!" "How could I forget, Cath? It's an important date." He frowned when she began patting him down. "Catherine, maybe we should wait until we're at home." She gave him a look and stopped. "I'm trying to find your cheat sheet." "What cheat sheet?" "The one where you wrote down all those dates." "My cheat sheet's in here." He tapped his temple. "When it comes to you, I remember every single detail." He gave her a wink and dipped down to kiss her. *THE END* | ||
