Disclaimers: Okey quit rubbin it in! I will never ever own the show or the characters. *pouts*
Spoilers: None
Author's Notes: Don't know how long Eddie & Catherine were married for so I just made up a number. And is the coroner's name AL or DAVID? They kept switching it at one point now I'm all mixed up. I'm sticking with Al for now. If it's David, I'll change it later.
Chapter 1

Catherine walked into the break room and eyed the 3 younger CSI's suspiciously. The sudden silence was almost deafening. "Well don't stop talking on my account." She turned to Nick, who was grinning uncontrollably, "What were you guys talking about?" She asked flirtatiously, knowing it didn't take much to make Nick talk.

Nick glanced at Sara and Warrick, who had smartly kept their mouths shut, and then turned back to Catherine, who was still waiting for an answer, "We were just...wondering...about...something."

"Care to share?"

Again, he looked to Sara and Warrick for help but they didn't budge. All eyes were on Nick and as Catherine had predicted, it didn't take much to get him to talk. "Did anything ever happen between you and Grissom?"

Catherine had been expecting something odd but even this was a surprise to her. Just as she was about to say something, Grissom cleared his throat, informing everyone of his presence in the doorway, "Don't you people have work to do? If you don't, I have plenty of paperwork you could help me on."

Almost immediately, the CSI's cleared the room, leaving Grissom and Catherine alone inside. "We were in the middle of a conversation, Gil." Catherine said, feigning disapproval.

He gave her a look over the rim of his glasses as he headed for the coffee pot, "It's none of their business, Catherine. I thought I was doing you a favour."

"You were just afraid of what I would say." She shot back.

Taking a sip of his coffee, he grimaced and quickly poured the liquid into the sink, "Why would I be afraid of the truth? That was what you were going to tell them, right? The truth?"

She grinned and when he gave her another one of his looks, she rolled her eyes, "You're no fun, you know that?"

"What were you going to do? Lie to them?" The smile on her face confirmed his suspicions, "So you were going to tell them that something had indeed happened between us?"

"Well it's sure a lot more fun than telling them otherwise."

"*Otherwise*, being the truth." He said quickly, a little bewildered by Catherine's temptation to deviate from the truth.

She rolled her eyes again and decided to change the subject, "Grissom?"

Grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge, he didn't question the change of subjects, "Yes, Catherine?"

"Why didn't anything ever happen between us?"

He cocked an eyebrow at her and twisted the bottle cap open before answering her, "Need I remind you of your 13-year marriage to Eddie?"

"Well what if that never happened?"

Taking a sip of water, he frowned, "If you never married Eddie?"

"Yeah."

"What happened to never looking back?"

"Nice try but that's not an answer, and I'm just wondering."

He looked at her, suddenly mesmerized by her eyes, and he was about to answer when the shrill beeping of his pager interrupted him. He startled slightly before checking who had such bad timing. "It's Al. He's done the autopsy."

"Saved by the pager." She said, not bothering to hide her disappointment.

"C'mon..." He nodded towards the doorway and indicated with his hand for her to lead the way.

"This conversation isn't over." She wagged her finger at him and he chuckled, shaking his head, knowing she meant what she said.
