Night Out With the Girls
by Karen
Spoilers:none that I can think of, have only actually watched season one - rest of my knowledge has been gained from this site! So am too scared of getting details wrong to go down the spolier road. This story inhabits the same universe as my 'I'm Happy' stories.
Rating:actually would be very grateful if someone would clarify the ratings for me (we'll I get what R is etc but its the lower grades I wonder about...) Some mild language so if that offends you stay away!
A/N: Have a bad feeling about this story, was trying to type it out on Friday and my computer started smoking. It died shortly after! So have gotten into debt and am now on my shiney new laptop, just so I can post here... Would like to continue with this universe, have a few ideas that intrigue me, so would love honest feedback to know if its worthwhile or if I should move on.

"Everyone is so young in here, it's making me feel old"

"Cath honey, those college boys at the bar have been staring at you for a good half hour so I wouldn't worry about your diminishing powers!"

"I think there's a good chance they've just been next door watching you and Jen dance and they can't believe their luck that you are actually here"

"She's right you know Debbie, I saw them earlier in the club and their eyes almost popped out of their heads when they saw me at the bar"

"See my powers have diminished, I suppose it comes to everyone with age"

"Stop fishing woman! We are not here to talk about how fabulous you still look - although you do look good honey- we are here to talk about the mystery man"

"Yeah. We've been looking at the clues and think we may have come up with a profile!"

"Funny."

"We've both got different theories. I happen to believe you've landed yourself some young guy, probably a young idealistic teacher from Lindseys school. You spend all your freetime with him cause he reads you poetry and leaves you love notes around the house. He's Lindseys' favourite teacher so even though he's starting to bore you, you're going to stick it out."

"You got time to make stuff up about me. Business must be worse than I thought, you're spending too much time reading crappy romance novels that are obviously putting crazy notions in your head"

"Exactly what I told her, which is why my theory is the right one."

"Wait I need to go and get another drink before I hear this"

"Don't worry, more are on the way. Have arranged that they bring us a round every twenty minutes. We are getting you drunk tonight woman, whoever the guy is he's been keeping you on too tight a leash - tonight we are cutting loose"

"Anyway, my theory..."

"Amaze me oh wise one"

"There was only one other time in your life that I've seen you like this - all stupid and happy. It was when you and Ed first got together, so therefore you are having a very passionate affair with someone you met on a case. He's a little bit bad so you're keeping him under wraps, I'm thinking he was a suspect but you proved him to be innocent. He's grateful and gorgeous and you are conducting a secret affair which is taking up all your freetime, and is causing you to neglect everything else in your life because you are enjoying the rush so much."

"You know, you are worse than Jen. Are you both subscribing to the same crappy romance magazines? 'Stupid and happy' what's that supposed to mean?"

"Okay so maybe we embelished a little, we are old married women and need to live vicariously through someone."

"Yeah sorry honey, but you've been out of the loop a bit lately and when we have spoken to you its obvious that there is someone. We just want you to share, it's good to see you happy"

"Okay I'm on my third cocktail, so I should be able to do this without getting embarrassed."

"So you're embarrassed by him, then he's definately younger. I knew it..."

"He's not younger, and I'm not embarrassed by him - far from it. I'm worried that when I start talking about him I will not be able to shut up about how amazing he is. No one knows about us yet and I have all these feelings I want to talk about but am scared of how it will sound when I say it out loud to anyone but him"

"'Kay. This is serious, you're not having an affair you're in love. WHO IS IT WOMAN?"

"Look am about to spill but keep your voice down, you getting too rowdy for Vegas, that can't be good"

"We will not speak, just sit here and ingest cocktails while you tell us about your 'guy'"

"Okay. Okay. Well, you know it's always been one of my rules never to get involved with someone I work with? I've broken my rule"

"That guy, Warrick, it's him right? Please make it be him, then at the wedding I can legally kiss him in my capacity as maid of honour and I will die a happy woman"

"No the other one, the really cute one that looks like he should be in a Calvin Klein ad."

"Who is telling this?"

"Sorry"

"Sorry, got carried away with the thought of kissing cute younger guys at your wedding. Please continue"

"It's neither of those two, it's Grissom"

"What. You are kidding?"

"The weird one that tried to tell me about spiders or butterflies, or something that time at your house. Are you serious? You're just pretending it's not Warrick so I'll not kiss him at the wedding and steal him away from you. Right?"

"I'm gonna go, do not want a hard time about this. I will not listen to you make fun of Gil and what we have..."

"Okay, sorry. It's just a shock, you will admit he's not your usual type. Look don't go, tell us about what you have. Really, go on"

"We've been seeing each other for six months so it's not a whim, and it's not going away so you're going to have to get used to it. He makes me happy, we make each other happy."

"Why?"

"Subtle, Debbie"

"It's okay, if that's what you're both thinking thats fine. But you have to understand I've never felt like this before."

"You mean you've not felt like this since Ed."

"Why are you such a champion for the good old days with Ed, no - he makes me happier than Ed ever did. I love him more than I ever loved Ed. He makes me feel beautiful which I thought was impossible..."

"Ed used to tell you you were beautiful, any guy in this bar would tell you you're beautiful."

"That's not what I'm saying, Gil makes me FEEL beautiful. When he looks at me, when he touches me, when he listens to me and when he loves me - he makes me feel beautiful and I am dizzy with it"

"God, so you've been spending all your time being worshipped by this guy, but do you love him back. Is it not just the attention?"

"No, if it was just attention I could pick up any guy in a bar. I'm crazy about him, everything about him. His kindness, his brilliance, his sense of fun that only Lindsey and I get to see - it's a gift he bestows on us. I love his beautiful face, I love his passion and I love his arms. Okay I know that sounds silly, but he has great arms, strong and powerful and when I wake up in them I feel like the luckiest woman alive. I love him."

"And you said we had been reading crappy romance magazines, think you're living out a plot there honey. I'm pleased though, even in my drunken state I know when to apologise and shut up and just say congratulations."

"Me too, sorry. Do we get to meet him then, decide if he's good enough for you before we really decide to like him"

"Actually, I do want you to meet him, just not sure if it should be before the wedding or on the actual day"

"Wait, did I miss a step - you guys are getting married?"

"Well, I'm more drunk and brave then I've been in a long time so am about to go home and go down on bended knee. Wish me luck..."
