AN: Ok, said when I originally posted the first one, I wasn't going to write a sequel. But it's been calling to me and darn it, I just can't have sad endings. Sappy romantic in me. Sorry. Anyway, found the song, finally, Here In My Heart by Martina McBride and can be found on her cd Evolution. Don't own the song either. Crap, I don't own much. *sighs* Anyway, here it is. Hope you like it. Either way let me know. And again, there will be no sequel. Maybe... Oh, and one more thing, just in case...takes place the same time as If A Man.Ok, bye!

Wondering waiting
Restless for a sign
I thought you walked so slow
In my haste I left you behind
Caught in the pace of this madness
Searching for shelter I find

Catherine drove around Vegas trying to sort out her thoughts. Thoughts of him, of the night they'd shared together. Passion, desire, need and yes, if she was honest, love. She knew he loved her just as deeply as she loved him, but in the light of the day, she panicked. And when Catherine panicked, she ran. She told him she was afraid and it was the truth. She'd been restless for so long, searching for something. And that one night, she had found what she'd been searching for. She'd found her shelter, her refuge from the world. Safe in his arms and his bed. And it scared the crap out of her.

That here in my heart there's a refuge waiting
Here in my heart you just won't let me go
I could run away run away
But you stay here in my heart

She thought that distance would make it easier, make the feelings go away, but they didn't. The feelings grew until she found herself here, driving down the strip, looking at the signs, at the people walking around, all of them just as lost as she was. Trying to find themselves in the glitz and glamour that was Vegas. They all had dreams, she did, and she'd ran from dream to dream, trying to find fulfillment. But it took all these years to realize there was one person who fulfilled those dreams.

Meaning purpose
Got lost in pursuit of my dreams
I've been longing aching
In quest for a love that's supreme
I couldn't see you were reaching
But I should've known all along

He was her meaning for life. Both him and Lindsey. They kept her going when she wanted to give up, when the stress of the job became almost unbearable. When she didn't think she could put on foot in front of the other. The tears rolled down her cheeks unchecked when she realized that she'd thrown away the one gift he'd given her, his heart. He was so deeply imbedded in hers that she couldn't remember a time when he wasn't there. For her, Vegas meant one thing. Gil Grissom.

I could run away run away
But you stay here in my heart
There's a refuge waiting

Catherine had finally decided to do something about it, to go to him, and she called Warrick to come stay with Lindsey. That was hours ago. He probably thought she was with him already and in truth she had driven over to see him, but as she drove down his street, she panicked and turned around. What would she say? How could she explain emotions and feelings she didn't quite understand? It had been one month, 28 days. Could they really just pick back up where they left off? Or was he too hurt, too angry? What if he didn't love her? But he did, she knew he did. She remembered the way his hands had made her body come alive. His moans and sighs as she moved over his body, not one inch of it untouched, unloved, not tasted. The way he screamed her name as he came within her, the look in his eyes as he held her to him. You could fake a lot of things, she knew, she'd faked things herself, but you couldn't fake love. Not in those moments of ecstasy they had shared.

Here in my heart you just won't let me go
I could run away run away
But you stay here in my heart

He was in her heart and no matter how hard she tried she couldn't let go. There was only one thing left to do. Go to him and see. Knowing couldn't be half as bad as wondering, right? Once again, she found herself turning down the street that would take her to him, but fear overtook her and she pulled over, shutting the engine off and sitting in the darkness of her car, absently chewing on her fingernail. Wondering, debating, deciding. She could see his 'condo' from where she sat, and she thought she could see a light shining through the window. It was late, maybe he wasn't up, maybe he was sleeping, maybe he didn't want to see her. Maybe, just maybe, he hated her. She had to know; it was now or never. Catherine found herself starting the car again, driving the last few yards and parking in the driveway. She slowly got out, fighting the urge to either vomit or run and walked up to the front door. She hesitated for a moment and then knocked on the door, holding her breath until it opened.

"Hey," she said and waited for a response. He didn't say anything, just looked at her through pain-filled eyes. Pain that she caused. She felt the tears threaten. "Can I come in?"

Gil stepped aside and watched her walk in. He still didn't say anything; he was too stunned by the person that answered the phone at her house. Is that why she came over? To tell him that she was with Warrick now? That she never loved him? Before he could ask, she was speaking.

"I've been driving around Vegas for hours, searching for something. Warrick is watching Lindsey for me. I just needed to get out, and he was the only one home, at least the only one who would answer my call. You can do a lot of soul-searching during five hours of driving."

"Did you find it?"

"What I was searching for? Yes." Catherine looked at the floor and traced the seams of the wood with her boot-clad foot, her hands stuffed into the back pockets of her jeans. "Funny, I'd found it years ago. Just didn't realize what it was."

"And?"

Catherine looked into his blue eyes and found the shelter, the shelter and the love she'd been blinded to all along.

I couldn't see you were reaching
But I should've known all along

"You." It was so simple, so incredibly easy to say. Why had she thought it would have been so hard? She watched as he walked to her and stop, inches from her. So close and yet so far. Again, she held her breath, waiting. She gasped, the tears falling down her cheeks as he reached out and pulled her to him, closing her eyes as his love washed over her in pure, sweet, blissful waves. And when his lips met hers, she felt the madness and the restlessness fade and she knew she was exactly where she belonged. And she was never going to leave again.
