Chapter 1

The room spun as he lifted his head from the paperwork littering his desk.

White.

It was the first colour that stole his vision.

He quickly became aware of the sharp pains in his left arm and upper back. Shaking his head, he gently tried to will the feeling away without success. The silence of the office was suddenly interrupted by the dulling of his hearing, in favour of a deafening pulse ringing in either ear.

Sweat formed quickly on his brow, caressing his temples and cheeks with a tenderness the rest of his body was neglecting. Submission to the situation at hand over took him, knowing he could no longer fight the inevitable; he desperately reached for the phone on his desk. He dialed one to connect him to the receptionist outside his damning four walls and heard her pick up as his chest exploded in a tumultuous fiery pain. In that moment, before the white turned to black, he wished he had told her sooner.
