"Hey, Gil?" " Hmmm?" " Can I ask you a question?" They were in his office, working on some overdue papers. Well, at least Catherine was working whereas Grissom was busy dwelling on his advance level puzzle. "Depends." "On what?" "On the question." "What do you mean?" " You can ask but excuse me if I don't feel like answering it," he said with a sweet smile on his face. She rolled her eyes and shook her head a little. This man can be too cute for his own good, she thought to herself. "Well, in that case I'll take my chances and ask you anyway. Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you weren't a CSI?" "No," he answered straight away without looking at her. His focus was solely on his puzzle. " Oooooookay. Have you ever wondered what life would be like without science?" "No." "Life without your bugs?" "No." "Life without the lab?" "No." "Okay then. How about life without Greg annoying the hell out of you?" " That's a hell no. Why would I ever wonder about Greg?" All this while he never even glanced at her. She began to wonder if he was paying any attention to her at all. "Gil, don't tell me you never wondered about anything," " Of course I have," " Well, what is it?" " I always wondered what life would be like without you…" "Really?" the surprise in her voice was evident; she couldn't hide it even if she tried. He took off his glasses and finally looked at her, straight in the eyes. His gaze burnt into hers. " I thought about it all the time. I still do. It hurts just to think abut it. But I couldn't help myself. I hope that day will never come. I don't remember what life was like before you came along and that's because I never lived at all before I met you." He took her hand across the table and planted a soft kiss on the palm, inhaling her sweet scent. He took a deep breath and continued with his speech, " I am so grateful that I have you. I would never trade you for anything in this world eventhough you can be such a royal pain in the ass. I can live without the science, without the bugs, without the lab, and I sure as hell can live without Greg, but I can never live without you. You are the reason for me to look forward to each brand new day because every single day, you amaze me with something new and fresh and pure." He reached forward to wipe the tears that rolled down her cheek and kissed them away. " Life without you, Catherine, is no life at all. Every beat of my heart belongs solely to you. The day you became my wife, was the day I was reborn. Reborn to be a better man. A man that is worthy of you, of your gentle touch, of your tears, but most of all, a man worthy of your love. My world makes sense again now that you're a part of it and I love you so much. My life is all about you and everything you are even if you nag all the time." She laughed through her tears at the last comment. She stood up from her chair and walked over to pull him into a tight embrace. A lovers embrace. "You know, for a man who doesn't interact with people very well, you sure have a way with words," she joked. "Well, what can I say? You are my inspiration," he said before he sealed his lips with hers. It was heaven. A blissful moment. Then suddenly, she pulled back slightly with a very funny look on her face. She looked at him with a sideway glance. "What?" " Are you sure your life is not about solving the genius level puzzles?" THE END ;) | ||
