| Chapter 1 | ||
Grissom was walking through the Crime Lab, trying to locate Catherine. Hodges had handed him some lab reports that were relevant to the case she and Greg were working on, but he couldn't find her. As he was walking toward the breakroom, Greg bumped into him. "Greg, watch where you're going." He paused, when he realized that the young trainee was sporting a bruised face, complete with a black eye and split eye. He grabbed Greg's chin and forced the young man to look him in the eye, taking a good look at his bruised young face. "Greg, what the hell happened to you?" The young man sighed, "Catherine and I went back to the crime scene because the daughter's statement wasn't gelling with the evidence we'd found. So we went back to the house and Catherine sent me to look in the basement. I'd been there like ten minutes when I heard Catherine scream, I ran upstairs and found the daughter's boyfriend trying to stab Cath with a butcher knife. So I snuck up behind him and tried to take him down. What I didn't know was that the guy was built a brick house and he knocked me around like an insect. Catherine ended up clocking him with a cast iron skillet." Grissom felt his heart jump into his throat at the realization that Catherine had come very close to dying. He looked behind Greg, but didn't see the object of his concern anywhere. He looked at Greg again, "Where's Catherine now?" Greg shrugged, "She was talking to Brass the last time I saw her. In her office." Gil patted his shoulder, "Thanks." He walked quickly toward his friend's office, trying to keep from running, desperate to assure himself that his best friend, and secret love was alive and well. He slowed down as he approached Catherine's office, he didn't want to upset Catherine. He gently knocked on the door, and poked his head in, "Hey Cath-" his breath caught in his throat when his eyes took in the scene in front of him. Catherine was wrapped in Jim's arms, her face buried in his chest, shoulders shaking. Grissom had held Catherine when she cried enough times to know what was happening. Jim's cheek was resting on the top of Catherine's head, tenderly shushing the red-headed investigator. Grissom was close enough to hear what Jim was saying to her without trouble. "Shh, Cath, it's okay. I got you. You're alright." Then right before Gil's eyes, Catherine lifted her head and looked into Jim's eyes. The air seemed to ring with sexual tension as Jim lowered his head and kissed Catherine full on the lips. The kiss went on and on, with Jim gently thrusting his tongue into Catherine's mouth. The two of them stood there kissing as Gil stood there, his eyes wide and his heart sinking slowly into his stomach. Quietly, so as not to disturb them, Gil quietly closed the door again, and leaned against the door, trying to make sense of what he'd just seen. Cath and Jim? Together? When the hell had this happened? Where had he been? Had Cath moved on? What about him? ***************************************** Okay guys, this is the first time I've posted, so be gentle. | ||
