Gil Grissom was a careful driver, always had been. Never had so much as a speeding ticket in his 30 some-years behind the wheel. But today, his right foot felt like led as he made he made his way home from Reno. Four days at seminar where he was the star speaker and professor. He was more than happy to be going home. The only ground I ever owned was sticking to my shoes What waited there for him was more than he ever thought he would ever have or want for that matter. He never saw himself as the marring kind with children... Then he met his beloved Grasshopper and all his walls came tumbling down. She smiled that smile and he was gone. My blessings are in front of me Since their trip to London almost 2 years ago, life had been perfect. Taking the ramp onto 1-15, he began to beam with pride and love. He looked over the rim of his sunglasses at the clock. He'd made good time. It wouldn't be long now. No more lonely townhouse. Now he had a family he loved more than life itself. Their beautiful faces came into his mind. Little Michael Grissom, 18 months old. He had his mothers hair, his fathers cheeks and their eyes. Lindsey, a glowing and lovely almost-12 year old. She was strong, typical pre-teen girl. So much like her mother. And then there was his wife, Catherine. What could he say about her? After 20 plus years, her natural and exquisite beauty still took his breath away and her loving, sexy ways left him speechless. There's a carrot top who can barely walk with a sippy cup of milk Is my front porch looking in It suddenly occurred to him that he had seen many things and places over his 53 years and had never had a thing to come home to. Now he had everything to come home to. I've traveled here and everywhere following my job They bought a place out in Henderson, one that had no bad memories, one that was THEIRS. He pulled into the driveway. There, in the front window, was Lindsey. She'd been waiting for him. His soft lips spread into a smile. He turned off the engine, threw open the door of the Denali and hopped down. He stretched and shut the car door. In a moment, Michael and Lindsey came through the door. Lindsey picked him up and carefully came down the steps as fast as she could. Michael wiggled and she put him down. He took off and rushed into his fathers arms on precarious legs, his sippy cup clutched in his right hand. Gil scooped his son up into his arms. The child wrapped his arms around his neck tightly. Then he felt two stronger arms encircle his waist. "Daddy," Lindsey said, squeezing him tightly. He closed his eyes, savoring each second. Michael placed a sloppy kiss on his nose and he laughed. The sippy cup fell to the grass. "Uh oh!" he squealed as he looked over his fathers shoulder at it laying there. "I'll get it," Lindsey sighed playfully, moving to do as she promised. Her two long blond braids bounced and her blue eyes squinted in the sun. Gil chuckled as his son again planted one on his nose. As his eyes glanced up, there she stood on the tiny front porch of their little piece of heaven. The arms he loved to hold him folded across her ample chest, the lips he loved to kiss spread in a loving smile. Her blue-green eyes were sparkling. Her reddish-blond hair was shining in the sun and hung to below her shapely shoulders. His deity, the love of his life. The yin to his yang as she always said. He smiled back with all his heart. I see what beautiful is about when I'm looking in, not when I'm looking out He thanked God for his family and he began to walk to the house, holding Michael tightly. There's a carrot top who can barely walk with a sippy cup of milk Is my front porch looking in Lindsey stumbled on the second step and it was then he noticed her shoes were on the wrong feet. He raised his eyebrows at her and she answered his silent question. "I was in a hurry," she shrugged. Father and daughter exchanged heartfelt smiles. He turned his head and found himself inches from Catherine as she moved closer to him. He was whole again, happy and safe at her side once more. She smirked. "Welcome home," she said. "Hello, dear," he said softly. He leaned over and their lips met in a kiss. Lindsey groaned. Her parents giggled and pulled apart. "There will be a day when you won't feel that way," her mother assured her. The Grissom family went inside and prepared to have dinner. | ||
