Catherine Willows and Sara Sidle, both members of the Las Vegas Crime Scene Investigation Graveshift team, were both fed up waiting on the men in their lives making the first move. During a lunchtime break they had found Leah, who was another dissatisfied female member of the investigation unit. Drinking their coffee and eating their sandwiches, grateful there were no males present, they griped about how thick men were. Sure as liberated females they could make the first move, but knowing the men in whom they were interested, that might not be the best idea. "Grissom tends to be a bit old fashioned." Catherine moaned. "I'm not even sure if he really fancies me or not." She went on wryly. "Yeah, right!!" Sara scoffed. "I've seen him look at you when he thinks no one is looking. He wants you. I just don't think he knows how to go about it, you've been friends for so long. However it's different with Nick, he's not old fashioned." "True," Catherine answered, "but he does have a tendency to treat you with that southern courtesy." She finished. "And what is Warrick's excuse?" Leah asked. "I've hinted till I'm blue in the face." "I think part of his problem is also part of Grissom's," Catherine began, "neither one of them think a good looking female, excuse the self praise but you know what I mean, could possibly like them." Sara leaned back in her chair; "We will just have to come up with some way of getting them to take notice." And that is what they did. The next time the grave shift was real quiet Catherine informed the team that she had a new game for them to play. She also informed them that as she was giving Leah a lift home and as it was also dead, excuse the pun, in her department she was coming up to join them. When everyone was in the break room Catherine explained the game. "You can actually thank the Thomson case for this..." "The one where it would have been better if they had followed Burns' suggestion." Grissom interrupted. Catherine looked puzzled. "You know as the song goes, They should have drunk 'only with thine eyes and I will drink with mine.'" The strawberry blond laughed, John Thomson had been poisoned at his 24th wedding anniversary meal. "'Or leave a kiss within the cup and I'll not ask for wine.'" Catherine finished. "You know you are partly responsible for this game as well." She went on looking at Grissom. "Me?" the older man asked perplexed. "Yeah, remember I said I could match the ten drinks on the table to the ten people at the meal, without knowing who had sat where, and without using any forensic tricks?" He nodded. "You were about eighty percent right, we discovered after carrying out DNA and prints." "Well, that's where I got this idea from. Here goes." She looked around as the door opened and Leah joined them. "I have photographs of the six people here. I will place them face down on the table. One of us lifts one up and has to say the name of a cocktail that comes to their mind as soon as they see the picture. No hesitating. And no...." she saw Grissom about to make an excuse, "you can't claim you don't know enough cocktails because we were all involved in the Bryson case a few months back." Grissom closed his mouth and slumped back in his chair. "Gotcha!" Catherine thought. "I'll give you an example to help you out. If I picked up a picture of Ecklie, I would immediately think of a whiskey sour." Conrad Ecklie was the much despised, well in the Graveshift anyway, supervisor of the day shift forensic team. "Okay Nick you go first." Nick Stokes, the Texan Sara had chosen, picked up the first picture and said, "Moscow Mule." He turned the picture to let the others see it was Sara's. "She's so damned stubborn." He explained grinning. He replaced the photograph. "Right, Leah, your turn." Catherine said. The young, dark haired girl picked up her picture and said, "Scorpion." She displayed it to the others and looked at Grissom, whose photograph it was. "Sorry it's the bug thing." She gave a wry smile and set down the picture. "Grissom." Catherine nodded at her supervisor. "American Beauty." He stated turning slightly red as he showed Catherine's photo. "Needs no explanation." And also returned the photograph to those on the table. The others looked at him surprised by this openness. Catherine blushed and smiled. "Thank you sir." She replied. "Okay, Warrick let's see if you've got any surprises." She told the tall African American. "Temptation." He told them showing the picture of Leah. "You can all see why." The young woman blushed even darker than Catherine. "My turn." The strawberry blond began stretching out to pick up a photograph. This was all well and good but they weren't really making the progress she had hoped. She was glad now she had cheated. When she had chosen the pictures for the game she had made a small mark on the back of each of the three males' photographs. The other women were in on her trick and knew the mark which would identify the photograph which depicted their chosen partner. She bent forward and made her selection. "A comfortable screw." She informed them displaying the older man's photograph. The others stared open mouth, but he just sat there looking at her appraisingly. She gave a grin and then said, "Sara, your turn." Taking her cue from Catherine, Sara picked the photograph she wanted. "Between the Sheets." She showed the photograph to Nick first with a flirtatious grin. Nick who was still trying to recover from Catherine's announcement stared at her. "Well?" She asked. He looked from her to his boss, whom he noticed was not as perturbed by the strawberry blonde's comment as Nick had expected him to be. The young man cleared his throat, "Maybe we should discuss this." He looked at Grissom once more. "The shift is nearly over, do you mind..." "Go." His supervisor told him. "Just make sure you've got things sorted out before you come in tomorrow night." Before Catherine could say anything, Leah reached out and picked up Warrick's photograph, "Screaming orgasm." And then she turned the picture to the man who was on it. The look Grissom gave Catherine showed he knew exactly what she was up to. She just looked at him, a picture of innocence. He had to stifle a laugh. "Ah, boss...." Warrick began. "Get out of here." He was told and the couple duly left. "And then there were two." Catherine stated. "You know I thought I might have rated 'A long sloe comfortable screw up against a wall.'" He informed her smiling. She smiled, "there's only one answer to that." He raised an eyebrow quizzically. "Your wall or mine?" She told him grinning. The End. | ||
