Catherine walks into Gils office as he looks over the papers of the Anderson Case. His brain wracked trying to find the child. She clears her throat and he looks up at her. She shoves the antenna down on her cell phone and sets it on his desk," I just got a phone call from my doctor"

"Your doctor?"

"Annual tests were being run......there's been a developement"

"Development?"

"Nothing bad it just could have come at a better time," he notices how she doesn't move her hand from her stomach and how she keeps stairing at it. She looks up at him tears in her eyes," You're going to be a daddy"

"You're.....pregnant?"

"Yeah doctor said 9 weeks"

"We're having a baby?"

"Everything we always wanted"

"Oh my god," he swings her around and she smiles," We're getting our baby Gil"

"Catherine you are the most amazing woman ever"

"Thank you," he wipes the tears from her eyes," Come on we can celebrate later. We've gotta go to the Andersons. You gonna be okay?"

"Yeah I'll be fine.....I'll be okay," he kisses her lips and they walk out of the office hand in hand.

Catherine storms into Gils office and slaps the back of his head," OW what the hell was that for?"

"What is going on with you. You completely freak out on Sara and Greg, you only talk to me, what is going on Gil?"

"It's nothing"

"If it's nothing you aren't leaving this office until it turns into something?"

"Is it always going to be like this.....the moment you tell me you're pregnant your hormones go haywire on me?"

"Yes"

"Well then I guess we're going to be in here for a while because it's nothing"

"Gilbert Jacob Anthony Grissom"

"Catherine Margret Lillian Grissom," she props her feet up on his desk and smiles," Yes?"

"Can I do my job please......which means letting me out"

"Not until you tell me whats wrong......and I know somethings wrong"

"Just remember you made me do this," he lifts her out of her chair and starts kissing her. She groans and he pulls away dropping her on her couch and moving to walk out the door when she recovers," Ah ah ah I don't think so," she grabs his hand and pulls him to her. He drops on the couch and she looks into his eyes seeing fear," Gil baby tell me what's wrong this isn't like you"

"Cath you don't need it right now," he looks away," Don't say that," he looks back at her and she has tears in her eyes," What's wrong Gil tell me please"

"I'm scared okay

"Happy," he pulls his hand out of hers and rushes out of the room. She gets up and goes after him," Gilbert Jacob Anthony Grissom get your ass over here now," the whole lab seemed to simultaneously stop and he turns and looks at her knowing he was in trouble," Don't even think about walking away from this conversation"

"I'm scared Catherine what else do you wanna hear. I'm scared something's going to happen to you. I'm scared something's going to happen to the baby. I'm scared something's going to happen to us"

"I can't help you if you run"

"I don't know what else to do

"You have to understand that"

"I can't because I never ran from my fears"

"I have, hell Catherine I ran from you for 20 years..........I'm scared and I'm not asking you to help me just drop it now okay?"

"NO," again the lab looks back at them," You are not going to run scared everytime I get pregnant. You don't think it scares me, goddamnit Gil I'm carrying this child, you don't think finding that baby scared me. You don't think I don't know that that could happen to us. It could break us apart. How the hell do you think I feel??"

"About as scared as I am"

"Damn right," she storms off and Gil runs after her.

"Are you ever going to talk to me again?"

"I don't know maybe," he watches her as she slips the Chicago Bears jersey over her head. She combs out her straight hair and looks at him," I don't know anymore Gil"

"I'm sorry I made you feel that way"

"Gil....I'm going out back. I'll be in in about an hour okay?"

"You gonna be okay?"

"Yeah"

"Okay," she walks out to the porch and sits in one of the lounge chairs. Lindsey comes out," Mommy?"

"Hey baby"

"What's wrong I heard you and daddy fighting"

"Nothing honey just somethings from work," she opens her arms and Lindsey crawls into them. She strokes the platinum blonde tresses and sighs," Mommy do I have to go to daddy's this weekend??"

"You know what the judge said honey"

"I know but I wanna stay here"

"Honey what's wrong?"

"I just don't wanna go to daddy's. I wanna stay here"

"You'll be here all next week and then we're going to Hawaii and we're going to have lots of fun"

"Okay," she snuggles further into Catherine," Tell me a story mommy"

"Which one do you wanna hear about tonight?"

"Our story"

"Again?"

"Yup"

"Okay. Well let's see it was my birthday in '92. Me and Gil were out for dinner and I don't know what it was about you, but I just kept feeling this bubble movement and it wouldn't stop. So finally I guess I had zoned off so many times he just dropped his fork and says,' Am I that boring'. I look at him and all that comes out of my mouth is,' Huh'. He got this look on his face and I knew the question that was coming, Catherine are you alright. All I can do is shake my head. I mean all words left me and I was just lost, I knew that a doctor was gonna tell me something great. I looked up at him and it all just fell out,' I think we need to go to the hospital......now'. So we get to hospital and I'm sitting on this bed in an evening gown and he's pacing back and forth muttering to himself. After about 5 minutes of that I yell at him to stop. He stops and sits down on the bed next to me. After a while a doctor had finally come in and after the examination he told me I was pregnant with you. My jaw practically dropped to the floor. I ran out of the room crying and Gil started running after me and when I got to the car I just slid down the side, my head burried in my hands, crying. He got down on his knees next to me and asked me what was wrong......"

"Mommy I don't remember this part"

"That's cause I never told it to you. Lindsey when I found out I was pregnant with you I hadn't seen or heard from Eddie in a month and a half. I was going to divorce him and when I found out I was pregnant I couldn't let you grow up without a father"

"What about Gil?"

"Well that's the thing. I really never thought about it and I've gotta look into somethings but....," she puts Lindsey so she's sitting on her lap facing her," I don't want you to say anything to anyone yet okay, but I'm gonna have Greg run one of our special tests and it's going to tell me if Gil or Eddie's your daddy okay?"

"Okay mommy," she lays back down and Catherine strokes her hair telling her the rest of their story.

"Hey Cath I have those results," Greg pokes his head into Gils office and Catherine turns from looking at Gil to looking at Greg," Thanks Greg," she takes the folder and smiles at him. She opens it up and skims the results," Gil we need to talk about that night"

"What night?"

"*That* night"

"Oh, okay, what?"

"Lindsey is your daughter"

"Catherine I signed the adoption papers the day we got married of course she is"

"No she's your daughter biologically," Catherine tosses the folder on his desk and he reads them over," I never thought about it"

"What did you expect Gil the doctor told me I was 12 weeks pregnant?"

"Eddie was only gone for a month and a half"

"We hadn't had sex for 5"

"What do you want to do?"

"I think we need to tell Linds and a judge"

"And?"

"I don't know that's about as far ahead as I've thought," she sits in the chair in front of his desk," Is this going to change things??"

"I don't think a judge is going to let Eddie see her anymore. I do want to wait until the baby's born though"

"What....why??"

"Because I don't want this to hurt the baby"

"Catherine the baby is going to be here in September. Do you really want our daughter going with Eddie that much longer?!?"

"It's a small price to pay to make sure our other baby's safe"

"It's 3 more months Catherine"

"I don't care Eddie isn't hurting her," her beeper goes off and she looks at it," Greg's finished the DNA results on the nightgown"

"We're still finishing this conversation," he leads her out to the DNA lab.

Gil walks into the delivery room and Catherine grabs his hand as he sits down next to her," Sorry bad traffic, I was stuck"

"At least you're here"

"What happened they were supposed to induce in 2 days?"

"I was at the execution and I don't know what happened the second they injected him my water just broke. I actually started laughing after a few minutes"

"About what?"

"You know that old saying that for every death there is a birth?"

"Yeah"

"It just crossed my mind and I started laughing"

"They have you on drugs don't they?"

"Yeah," she smiles as he kisses her forehead. Her doctor comes in and Catherine looks at her," Well what's the verdict?"

"We are going to induce in a way now.....your contractions keep stopping but when they come back they hurt. The baby is fine so we're going to wait about another 30 mins and then get you on a pitocin injection. The contractions will be hard, but your cervix will contract and you should be delivering in no time"

"Why the pitocin?"

"Because Catherine.......if we don't get your contractions regular and you dialating something will happen to the baby," she leaves and Catherine looks at Gil," Gil we can't loose our baby now"

"I know honey. I know," he kisses her forehead. She grabs his hand," Can we walk around a bit?"

"Sure honey," he helps her out of the bed and she slowly pulls out the IV supplying her system with pain meds," Cath..."

"I don't want them"

"Catherine..."

"Gil I don't want them," she leans against him as they walk down the hall. He keeps his hand on her stomach feeling the baby squirm around getting ready to be born. She smiles at him and they go into the room again. He sits in the chair and she sits on his lap letting him rub her back," What do you think we're having?"

"A girl I really want a baby girl"

"What do you want to name her?"

"Alexandra or Helena maybe Tabitha"

"What if it's a boy?"

"Brock or Colton or Isaiah maybe"

"Okay what do you think the baby's going to look like?"

"Dark brown or dark blonde curls, pale or dark blue eyes, and absolutely adorable like Lindsey was"

"Yeah??"

"Yeah," she smiles at him," We have a tendancy to make some pretty cute kids"

"Yeah we do," he helps her back into the bed and her doctor comes back in with a tray behind her," You ready for this?"

"I don't think I'm ever going to be ready," she turns her arm over letting her take it," You pulled out your IV"

"I didn't want it"

"Okay," she injects the fluid into her blood stream and pulls the needle out," Wait about 30 mins and it should be working"

"Okay"

"Thanks," she leaves and Catherine looks at Gil," Hold on for me?"

"Sure"

Catherine lets out a loud moan as a contraction washes over her," Please tell me I'm 10 cms"

"You're 10 cms and the baby's crowned. So push on three okay and hold as long as you can"

"Yeah"

"1.....2.....3," Catherine bears down quiet for a while then leting out a cry as the baby's head is pushed partially out," Just a little bit more. 1.....2.....3," Catherine bears down screaming and the head is about out when she's done," One more push and the head'll be out," she bears down again without the counting and the head slides out. She stops and pants for a second and Gil kisses her forehead," You're doing great honey"

"Shut up you are never touching me again," at her doctors command she bears down screaming and the doctor gets the shoulders out," Okay almost there"

"Never giving birth again," she bears down and Gil brushes hair off of her sweaty forehead. The baby slips out and Catherine lays back on the bed," Congratuations it's a girl," she smiles and takes her from the doctor holding her close. A few minutes later the cord attatching them gets cut and the placenta gets birthed. Dark blue eyes stare up at Catherine as the nurse carefully wipes her down wrapping her in a blanket," She's doing great"

"Yeah?"

"She's gaining color quickly, she's doing great"

"I want the nurse to take down her numbers and prints real quick"

"Okay," a nurse takes her and Gil kisses Catherines forehead and she smiles," Our baby girls perfect"

"You did great honey," Catherine watches the nurse weigh and measure their daughter before taking her prints. Cleaning her back up and clothing her the nurse hands her back to Catherine," 8 lbs. 5.4 ozs. 21 in. long"

"Thank you," Catherine raises her to her breast and she starts sucking hungrily," Have you guys picked out a name yet?"

"Aynslee Lynn Grissom"

"Do you have any idea how to spell that?"

"A y n s l e e"

"Okay," she writes it down. Gil strokes his daughters forehead and she looks up at him," Hey Aynslee"

"She looks like you"

"And she's pretty cute you were right"

"Yeah," Catherine kisses him and smiles," I love you"

"I love you too baby"
