Assume Nothing

Rating 90

A woman is found murdered in a casino hotel room with her throat slit and her husband also turns up dead in his car. The investigation is compromised by Nick when he makes an error in judgment. There is also a surprising development in the Sam Braun case that leaves Catherine worried.

Gil: "Her throat's been slit by what appears to have been a very sharp implement. The room is completely stripped. No bedding, no sheets."

Catherine: "No towels, either. Someone took a few souvenirs. I'll check the surveillance tapes."

Catherine joins Gil in the bedroom, while Gil continues examining the victim.

Gil: "Alice Dominguez. She wasn't robbed."

Catherine: "It's not her room, either. It was registered under the name of Parker."

Gil: "Wedding ring. Where's the husband?"

There's a slight buzzing sound, very soft. Gil looks across the room at Catherine's bag.

Gil: "I think your cell phone's vibrating."

Catherine: "You heard that?"

Gil: "Mm-hmm."

Catherine: "You're back."

Gil: "Huh?"

Catherine smiles at Gil as she picks up her phone. Gil winks back at her.

Catherine: "This is very weird."

Gil: "Yeah, usually when someone gets their throat cut, it's from behind."

Catherine: "Yeah, and it starts there, ends there. It's not very deep. No ligature marks. No defensive wounds."

Gil: "I think whoever did this was sitting in that chair."

Catherine: "She sat there and allowed someone to slit her throat?"

Orphelia: "Yeah, they look familiar ... from the neck up. I must've given them four, five lap dances each. They made my night."

Catherine: "So, they were George."

Gil look at Catherine, confused by what she had said.

Catherine: "Big tippers."

Orphelia: "No. They weren't the ones paying for it. The other couple was."

Gil: "The other couple?"

Orphelia: "Yeah, we were all in the VIP booth over there. The four of them -- they came in together. The other couple just wanted to watch. So I assumed they were friends. Good friends. I didn't get a good look at the other two, but they slid that money across the table ... mmm, brick this big. So, like I said, they just wanted to doggie in the window."

Gil, again confused, looks to Catherine for an explanation.

Catherine: "Watch."

Orphelia: "And they were subbing drinks left and right."

Once again, Gil looks to Catherine for an explanation.

Catherine: "Ordering clear drinks to keep the party going. What'd they order?"

Orphelia: "Two vodkas, two soda waters."

Catherine: "Guess who got the hard stuff."

Catherine's cell phone rings, and she turns away to answer it.

Orphelia: "Hi. Would you like a dance?"

The dancer starts making a move on Gil. He takes off his glass, watching what she is doing. Catherine watches what is happening out of the corner of her eye and quickly finishes her conversation.

Catherine: "Uh, I got to be at the courthouse. Apparently, there's a last- minute evidentiary hearing in the Sam Braun case. I need to be there."

Orphelia: "You sure you don't want a dance? I could be your specimen. You could be my mad scientist."

Catherine: "He already is, sweetheart. Thanks."

Catherine: "Is that it? We're done?"

Gil: "I think so."

Catherine: "Well, power's back on. So, why this place? How do you go from The Sphere to The Fez?"

Gil: "What do you think, Nick?"

Nick: "A reporter got some inside information. Killer probably heard about himself on the news, changed his MO."

Catherine: "Oh, great. Help the bad guys. I'm sure the Laggermans appreciate that."

Nick: "I should probably get those quarters back to the lab, work on the prints."

Gil give Nick an envelope of coins and he leaves. Catherine gathers the rest of the coins, as she's doing this Gil walks to the head of the bed and puts a coin in the slot on the wall. The bed starts vibrating and Gil lies down. Catherine looks at him.

Gil: "I need 15 minutes to think."

Catherine finishes gathering the coins.

Catherine: "Enjoy."

Gil: "So they lure their victims with the promise of sex. And then they get them to the room. And they say, 'just kidding. We don't want sex. We want your life.' Which still doesn't explain how they get the husband to kill his wife."

Catherine: "They had to have been in some kind of situation where they couldn't say no."

Gil: "They had a gun to his head."

Catherine: "They didn't think he was just going to walk away."

Gil: "Maybe he was hoping to save his wife from something worse. Rape, torture, then murder."

Catherine: "It's just so sick."

Gil: "Why did he stick him in the ice machine?"

Catherine: "Well, I checked with the manager. The vic was not registered. No car."

Gil: "So he had to improvise. Well, knowing now there was an odd mixture of blood, it's safe to say that someone cut themselves."

Catherine: "Someone's got blood on their hands."

Gil: "Okay, here we go. We've got a husband and wife serial team killing couples. So, let's see where we're at starting with the first double murder. Sara?"

Sara: "Bloody knife linking back to Alice Dominguez."

Catherine: "We suspect that Mr. Dominguez was forced to kill his wife for the promise of freedom."

Nick: "That explains the thumbprint I found on the exit door leading to the garage. What, they take him for a walk?"

Sara: "They were never going to let him go."

Catherine: "Doc Robbins found evidence of glitter on Mrs. Dominguez."

Warrick: "I also found glitter on Mr. Dominguez."

Gil: "I found some on Mr. Klinefeld's shoes, so it's possible the Klinefeld's picked up their first couple at Shimmer."

Nick: "Did anyone at Shimmer I.D. the Klinefelds?"

Catherine: "We didn't know who they were at the time. Okay ... that's it for the first murder. What about the second?"

Nick: "Uh, we've got prints on quarters."

Sara: "We do have an admixture of blood off the ice machine."

Gil: "What about prints on the ice machine knife?"

Warrick: "Forget it. Ice destroyed it."

Catherine: "Okay, so, uh, we're going to have to get into the Klinefelds' house. If they haven't tossed the towels and sheets ... we may have something."
