A procedure that separates ionis molecules (generally proteins). Used in CNA fingerprinting. Strands of purified DNA are sliced, yielding fragments of different lengths. These fragments are placed on gel that then has an electrical current rin through it. The shorter fragments move quickly towards the positive pole, and the DNA is thus sorted. Also known as cataphoresis. |
